Strictly Corby 2014

contestant Scott with his partner Emily dancing

'Strictly Corby 2014' was as glitter-tastic as ever this year, raising a grand total of £33,682.48!

The ten contestants fundraised their socks off before the event to earn vital points before dancing in front of a live audience at the Best Western Hotel of over 400 people to earn more points of the judging panel and votes from the audience. They had ten weeks to learn the waltz, cha-cha and a show dances, as well as raise as much as they could, before performing these on the night.

The atmosphere on the night was electric, with the room packed out with supporters ready to see as much glitter and sequins as you can imagine on a group of twenty people!

This year's contestants were:

Trish Oliver (ASDA) & dance partner Alex Turigel

Abbie Kennedy (Oxford University Press) & Stuart Hales

Michelle Petch (RS) & Dennis Smart

Deb Mapson (Mapson Builders) & Anthony Bazin

Jayne Edwards (Santander) & Terry West

Scott Carson (RS) & Emily Head

Trevor Hunter (Lakelands Hospice) & Liz Rogers

Chris Savage (Knight's Lodge) & Marye Simmonds

Warren Browning (Best Western Hotel) & Laura Scriven

Josh Murphy (Tata) & Shelley Davis

The team as a whole were the real winners, performing to such an incredible standard and raising the £30k, but it was Deb Mapson who took home the giant glitter ball trophy, with Jayne Edwards the runner up and Josh Murphy in third place.

Abbie Kennedy and her partner Stuart Hales took away the Best Show dance award on the night, awarded by the judges for their stunning routine to Let's Face the Music and Dance whilst Chris Savage and his partner Marye Simmonds were awarded the "Spirit of Strictly" title given to the couple who have had the most interesting journey. Organiser Paul Marlow commented "Chris was the last dancer to come on board but threw himself into his practice routines, wherever they could find a space – car parks, toilets, hallways – they danced!

"We are all stunned to have beaten last year's total by a whopping £10k, it's a truly amazing effort by all of the dancers who really pulled together as a team to put on a professional show. This event really captures the Corby public's imagination with the tickets selling out in just over an hour. The feedback from all quarters has been fantastic; the Mashdance Pop-tarts and Vicki Louise Sherwin who performed in the intervals went down a storm and I've even had several people approach me after the show to put themselves forward for 2015!""

The professionals listed above donated their time and expertise and taught our wonderful celebrities to dance – and help them fundraise! – over the ten weeks. All the professional dancers work with MaSh Dance school of dance, without whom the event would simply not be possible.
