Lakelands Day Care

your day

If you are making your own way to Lakelands you should aim to arrive at about 10am (see transport). If you have arranged for our mini bus door-to-door service to pick you up then the driver will also aim to arrive at about 10am.

nurse with patientsYou can expect a warm welcome from all the nurses, volunteers and other patients on arrival, as well as a cup of tea and biscuits. If you wish to,  you are very welcome to bring along a friend or relative for support on your first visit.

You can then just sit and relax quietly if you want to, or take part in an activity or complimentary therapy of your choice. Aromatherapy and massages are available most days and don not require an appointment. Other facilities and therapies may require pre-booking. How you spend your time at the hospice is really up to you, the nurses and volunteers are always there to assist you or to have a chat with.

Refreshments will be available, and a choice of lunchtime meals will be provided for which there is a charge of £3, and then in the afternoon, there will be tea and biscuits served in the lounge.

Your friendly volunteer driver will arrive to take those that are using our door-to-door service home at around 3.30pm.

What should I bring with me?

You will need to bring with you any medication that you usually take during the day as you will be responsible for taking your own medication as usual. If you have dressings that will need changing (perhaps your district nurse usually does them for you) then please bring them with you, along with any information you can so that we can continue the care that has already started.

I have difficulty taking my medication, can you help me?

Yes, the nurses can assist you with your medication but you MUST bring your medication in their original packaging, along with a copy of your repeat prescription.

Can I bring along my own activity to do?

If it's a knitting or crotchet project then of course yes, you are welcome to bring it along. However if your pastime is rocket building! then you might want to speak to a nurse about it first.
