Big Hugs!

Jeans Story

Jean Devenney – Day Room Hostess

I started at Lakelands Hospice as my best friend was a patient here. I came to help at the Christmas Fete, helping her on the cake stall and I loved it!

I became a volunteer 8 years ago making teas and coffee just for three hours on a Thursday morning and it made me feel so good. I have learnt so much since I have been here, made many more friends and we all have a good laugh.

The patients are kept busy, if they want to they do crafts and bingo and we have a great time selling all the things they make. My sister had cancer in America and I just wish they had a place like Lakelands there, she would have loved it.

The volunteers get together from the Hospice, Warehouse and Emporium for a hog roast or BBQ in the summer and I don’t know what I would do If I didn’t come here. It is very rewarding and you don’t know when anyone will need it.
