Why Volunteer

Why Volunteer at Lakelands Hospice

Work Experience & Training

Volunteering could help you learn new transferable skills, refresh old ones or simply give you the opportunity to gain valuable work experience. You could be currently employed, unemployed, retired or a student looking to start out in a new career or simply seeking inspiration in a new direction. We offer flexibility regarding the time you can commit to, and if you currently work full time but still want to volunteer with us, there are opportunities available during the evenings and at weekends.

Work Discipline

People who have been unemployed for a long period of time often find themselves getting out of the habit of work life and may feel that they have no purpose which can have a detrimental effect on their self-confidence and self-esteem. Volunteering for Lakelands Hospice could help you establish a healthier and happier routine, help you regain that “feel good” factor in the knowledge that you are helping a worthwhile cause.

Filling Gaps on your CV

Voluntary work during periods of unemployment can fill gaps in your CV making you far more attractive to employers. We are happy to provide all our Volunteers with references for future employers.

Confidence Building

Your confidence may have taken a recent knock, or you may be a shy person needing a helping hand to boost your self-esteem. Either way working in a friendly team environment where your work is really appreciated, and where you are given support in achieving your goals could give your confidence that much needed boost.

Make New Friends

Volunteering within the local community is a great way to make new friends whilst helping a worthy cause. Volunteering is often a good way of building a circle of friends when you are new to the local area.
